Following its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and recent presentations in Mexico City and Madrid, Audiovisual from Spain \(ICEX\) is bringing its international campaign to Shanghai. On Sunday, June 21, we are hosting a premier industry session titled "Stories Travel Further: Literature and Cinema in Spain-China Dialogue," designed to strengthen strategic ties and creative exchange between the European and Asian audiovisual sectors.
This specialized event highlights how storytelling and intellectual property seamlessly cross borders and artistic disciplines through three core segments:
Cross-Disciplinary Cinema: The session opens with a screening of three original short films from the campaign: Flamenco \(directed by Carla Simón\), La Llama \(directed by Turbo\), and La Tarara \(directed by Nicolás Méndez\). These works showcase a collaborative ecosystem connecting film with music, fashion, design, animation, and dance, featuring world-class artists such as Rocío Molina, Yerai Cortés, Jaime Hayon, Jordi Labanda, Rossy de Palma, Palomo Spain, Bárbara Lennie, Milena Smit or Arón Piper.
From Books to Screens \(IP Export\): Fernando Benzo, Secretary General of the Federation of Publishers’ Guilds of Spain \(FGEE\), will present high-potential Spanish literary works. This segment connects the publishing sector directly with global screen industries, opening new avenues for international co-productions and literary adaptations.
The Visionary Dialogue: Acclaimed contemporary directors Albert Serra and Bi Gan will meet for a central conversation on authorship, visual language, and building bridges between local imagination and global audiences. The panel will be moderated by Jenny S. Li, Variety's Shanghai correspondent.
This presentation comes at a highly dynamic moment for Spanish audiovisual production, which continues to gain momentum and visibility across major platforms, markets, and co-production forums worldwide. By fostering direct dialogue among filmmakers, producers, publishers, and institutions, we aim to expand Spain's position as one of Europe's most innovative and attractive audiovisual hubs.

The main pillars of the Spanish delegation include:
🏆 Golden Goblets Official Selection: Three Spanish projects are competing in the festival's official categories: Benigno \(Documentary\), Winnipeg, Seed of Hope \(Animation\), and Unplug \(Short Film\).
📽️ Focus Spain: A curated showcase highlighting the quality and global appeal of recent Spanish cinema, featuring market screenings of The Dinner, Sundays, Calle Málaga, and The Good Daughter.
💼 Shanghai Remakes: A key commercial initiative designed to export Spanish intellectual property. Prominent companies such as Begin Again Films, Cinema Republic, Latido Films, and MOD Producciones will pitch acclaimed titles like The Platform, Rosa's Wedding, When you no longer love me, and Two Many Chefs to international buyers and Asian streaming platforms.
🤝 Market & Industry: Dedicated institutional sessions to promote Spain’s competitive advantages, public support frameworks, and premier locations to position the country as a top-tier destination for international shootings.
